Introduction to Tomas Ramos
Who is Tomas Ramos? Again, if you’re from the Bronx and currently still living in the so-called Borough, then you need to learn more about him, especially if you are living in the Mott Haven area. Some readers may even remember him as the former congressional candidate who lost to Ritchie Torres back in 2020. Or how about the proliferated face of The Oyate Group; the nonprofit working with businesses like The Bronx Native, Bar 47, Chocobar Cortes, and Sobro Garden?
A quote from Negocio Now tells us that Tomas is “A first-generation Dominican American…born in Washington Heights. In the 1980s, while his father was incarcerated, Tomas and his mother relocated to Pennsylvania due to the effects of the crack cocaine epidemic and the war on drugs in his neighborhood. Upon his father’s release, the family moved to the Dominican Republic. Tomas later returned to the United States with his siblings and went on to finish high school and graduate from Temple University.”
After losing to Torres in a primary race as mentioned above, Ramos then launched the nonprofit Bronx Rising Initiative under the Oyate Group. The transition from his congressional campaign to the new nonprofit suggests this move was likely pre-planned. Our team was puzzled by Tomas Ramos’ decision to run for Congress in the Bronx. Ramos, who was born in Washington Heights, grew up in the Dominican Republic and Pennsylvania, then resided in East Harlem, and for some reason registered to run for Congress in the Bronx – is objectively a very strange choice. This raised questions about the rationale behind his campaign strategy.
Further investigation revealed that Tomas Ramos had no connection to the Bronx, aside from his involvement in organizing a program for the Bronx River Community Center. Another quote from Negocio Now: “Tomas began his community organizing career as the Program Director for Children’s Arts & Science Workshops at the Bronx River Community Center, bringing with him a background in youth education and hospitality. While working in the community center, Tomas fought to secure funding for the first technology center in New York City public housing and secured numerous awards and grants for local community centers and families living in low-income housing.”
According to a November 25th, 2024 article from New York Focus, Ramos had some unusual connections to Michael Andrew Jenkins. Do you remember him from our previous article? The mysterious founder of the secretive electronic trading firm Jane Street and former employee of the Susquehanna Capital Group located in… (drumroll please) Pennsylvania.
So we ask ourselves why is Tomas Ramos here? He claims he came from a strong background in financing yet has chosen to open 4 nonprofits plus a tuition-free private preschool, La Escuela Comunitaria del Bronx, alongside the most recent nonprofit Mott Haven Rising. All of these initiatives are based in the Bronx, specifically the South Bronx, and all are funded by Michael Andrew Jenkins from Jane Street. This raises many questions that currently lack clear answers.
Stay tuned, as our investigative team is on the ground getting some answers.
